Hope and Sunshine...

It's been a tough week here in Colorado. You like to believe where you live is a safe place, but something like what happened at the movie theater could happen anywhere. It's difficult to read about the victims without a breaking heart. I hope the healing can begin.

“You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.” --Mohandas K. Gandhi

Living up to my reputation as the Queen of Procrastination, I put together my tablescape today. It's not as hot as it has been, but I did burn myself grabbing the flatware when I was done! I guess I was pretty determined to set an outdoor table!

I hope you think it was worth it!

I tried to shoot the photos while standing in
the shade, but the sun still found me!

The fabric I used for my topper was my inspiration this week. I bought it for a project I am doing for my daughter's apartment. This is the only time it will be on a table!

The glass bird worked best for this table.

Of course, it's past peony season, but I think
these silk ones are very pretty! Were you fooled?

Etched glasses, blue glass cups, white and blue plates, and mosaic vase are from Goodwill.
Taupe plates and matching bowls are from Ross.
Plain stemware is from Dollar Tree.
The rest of the things came from somewhere, but my brain is fried, so I won't even guess.

For The Birds!

Before we get to my tablescape, I want to thank all the lovely people who gave condolences on the passing of my mother-in-law. We took a trip to South Dakota for her memorial service and the scattering of her ashes on her beloved Missouri River.

This week my inspiration is this tablecloth from TJ Maxx.

I hope you enjoy!

When purchasing a bird cage, make sure it opens. This one was welded shut, so the candles and greenery had to go in through the small door.

These chargers are one of my purchases from Goodwill during Denver's I Love Thrifting Day. I had so much fun meeting other bloggers, especially the fun and adorable Kathe With An E! To see more about the day, you can check out Kathe's post here! I will be sharing other purchases over the next few weeks. These chargers were brand new and I paid $1.50 each!

This napkin fold is called the fleur de lis!

I love the mirror effect of this bird!

Notice the beading on these dishes from Ross.

It's repeated in this tray from Goodwill!

Thank you so much for visiting!

14 Day Guest Room!

What do you do when you find out family (in-laws!) will be staying with you, and you don’t have a guest room? The answer is GET GOING!!!  In only a couple of weeks, Mr. Wonderful and I managed to put together a guest room.
We were using our spare room as a storage room/dog room/man-cave. It contained a leather loveseat, coffee table, floor lamp, plant shelf, humidors, motorcycle magazines, mini-fridge, and two dog crates.
Mr. Wonderful wasted no time cleaning out the room, so I didn’t get any good before shots. But, this is the space we were working with. Crazy window, huh?

I, of course, had a vision in my head how I wanted the room to look. I decided early on that I wanted to use what we had. That’s easy to do when you are a hoarder collector like I am. We did have to purchase a mattress set and area rug. Here is the result.

The quilt and pillows were part of my staging inventory. I knew I would use them in my house one day, and they went so well with the paint color in the room. The headboard came from a used furniture store (years ago) and cost less than $20. I was driving by and saw it. No, I had no use for it. Maybe, I’m psychic.

I had the little bedside table. It was a paint project I did decades ago. I have a collection of lamps, too. Eventually, I will get a larger nightstand and lamp, but these worked for now.

I knew we needed some kind of dresser or chest of drawers. This one was in our basement (it was used by my husband when he was a child) and I thought it fit in perfectly. I really did try not to girly up the room too much.

I participated in a beach tablescape challenge recently, which you can see here. I really didn’t think I would have another use for seashells and starfish, considering I live in Colorado. But, I ran across a watercolor beach scene (also part of my staging inventory) which I bought from Goodwill for $3. The frame was a light oak, so I mixed up some darker brown paint and rubbed it on with a cloth until I got the color I wanted.

The area rug came from Target.

I did purchase a luggage stand from Bed Bath & Beyond. Of course I used a 20% off coupon! I bought this basket for $3 at Tuesday Morning. I filled it with washcloths and toiletries. The starfish and the netting that it’s sitting on added to my beach theme.

I hope you enjoyed the birth of a guest room--our guests claimed to be very comfortable in it!
